On 13 Nov 2024, we held our first DREAMS Parent Webinar with 80 attendees.
Prof Kenneth Poon, lead Principal Investigator (PI), opened the webinar by highlighting the DREAMS project and its importance in advancing global research and shaping future practices and policies. Dr. Trivina Kang, co-lead PI, emphasized the value of participating in qualitative interviews as a platform for amplifying the voices of students and parents. Dr. Melvin Chan, co-lead PI, shared his findings on career and education exploration, which are summarized in this tip sheet.
The panel Q&A covered key strategies for supporting adolescents’ growth, focusing on managing expectations, encouraging effective study habits, balancing social media use, and reframing failure as a learning opportunity. Panelists emphasized fostering mastery-based learning, aligning studies with aspirations, and promoting positive reinforcement. They also highlighted the importance of moderated social media use for healthy development and the role of supportive adult responses in shaping how adolescents approach challenges and setbacks.
